1. Educational Purpose
The school’s internet access is intended primarily for educational purposes. This includes:
- Research for school assignments and projects.
- Access to online textbooks, educational videos, and other learning resources.
- Participation in teacher-approved educational games or interactive learning tools.
- Communication with teachers and peers for educational purposes.
The school’s internet may not be used for:
- Personal entertainment, including streaming movies, TV shows, or playing non-educational games.
- Commercial activities, such as buying or selling products.
- Social networking not related to school activities (e.g., personal Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok use).
2. Acceptable Use Guidelines
Students must follow these guidelines when using the internet at school or when using school-provided devices at home:
- Respect for Others: Students are expected to treat others with respect in all online communications, whether through email, instant messaging, or online forums. Name-calling, harassment, bullying, or spreading false information is strictly prohibited.
- Content Restrictions: Students are not permitted to access, download, or distribute material that is offensive, inappropriate, or illegal. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Pornographic content.
- Hate speech or discriminatory content.
- Content promoting violence or illegal activities.
- Digital Citizenship: Students must demonstrate good digital citizenship by:
- Respecting intellectual property by citing sources and avoiding plagiarism.
- Not engaging in unauthorized downloads or sharing of copyrighted material.
- Using strong, unique passwords and keeping login credentials confidential.
3. Network Security
The security of the school’s network is critical. Students must not engage in activities that compromise network security, including but not limited to:
- Attempting to bypass the school’s security systems, such as firewalls or content filters.
- Hacking into the school’s network or other computer systems.
- Installing unauthorized software or applications on school devices.
- Deliberately spreading viruses or malware.
If a student becomes aware of any security vulnerabilities, they are required to report it to the school’s IT department immediately.
4. Privacy and Confidentiality
• Personal Information: Students should not share personal information such as home addresses, phone numbers, or financial information online. This is to protect their safety and privacy.
• Email and Communication Tools: School-provided email accounts and communication tools (e.g., Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams) are for school-related purposes only. Students must not use these platforms to send personal or inappropriate messages.
• Monitoring and Privacy: Students should be aware that the school reserves the right to monitor all internet activity on school-provided devices and networks. This includes emails, browsing history, and file storage. There should be no expectation of privacy when using school technology.
5. Consequences of Misuse
Violation of the terms outlined in this agreement may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to:
- Temporary or permanent suspension of internet privileges.
- Detention or suspension from school.
- Confiscation of school-provided devices.
- In cases of illegal activity, referral to law enforcement authorities.
The school takes internet misuse seriously and will enforce consequences to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
6. Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
As a parent or guardian, you play a crucial role in guiding your child’s use of the internet both at school and at home. By signing this agreement, you acknowledge that:
- You have read and understood the school’s Internet Use Agreement.
- You will support the school’s policies by educating your child on the safe, responsible, and ethical use of the internet.
- You understand that while the school makes every effort to ensure safe internet access, it is impossible to completely restrict access to all inappropriate materials, and you will not hold the school responsible for content your child may inadvertently access.
